Google Analytics is a powerful tool for tracking your website’s most important metrics and your marketing return on investment (ROI). Google Analytics Ecommerce
1. Install Universal Analytics Tracking Code on your site.
Google recommends pasting your tracking code immediately before the closing <head> tag. More on Universal Analytics here.
2. Enable Ecommerce tracking in your Google Analytics Account.
- Go to your account’s Admin panel and click on Ecommerce Settings for the view that you’d like to track.
- Select Enable Ecommerce and set the toggle to On.
- Click Next Step and then select Done.
3. Add Your Website Domain to the Referral Exclusion List
- Go to your account’s Admin panel and click on Tracking Info in the property column.
- Select Referral Exclusion List from the drop down menu.
- Click the Add Referral Exclusion Button.
- Enter your website domain name in the text box, and click Create.
4. Track Ecommerce conversions using Google Analytics reporting.
- When a transaction on your website is completed, Xola scans your website’s HTML for Google Analytics tracking code. Once that’s located, Xola will send the transaction value to Google Analytics (more on Ecommerce tacking in Google Analytics here).
- Then, Google Analytics will record that purchase and all the user’s behavior leading up to it. Now you are able to see what digital marketing channels contribute (directly or indirectly) to your online sales.
Please note the following
- You should be using the Universal Google Analytics script (analytics.js). The old analytics script (ga.js) will not work. If you're using the old Analytics script, you will need to upgrade.
